“Canteens in a Time of Change”: new report on readiness for more plant-based meals
publicystyka.ngo.plThe report “Stołówki w czasie zmiany” was launched on 28 October 2026 during the Fifth Safe Food Forum at the Polish Sejm. Dr Katarzyna Wolnicka prepared the analysis using a survey conducted from March to July 2026, mainly in primary schools and kindergartens. The data therefore describe preparations before the new regulations took effect on 1 September, rather than an assessment of their subsequent implementation.
Among the institutions surveyed, 18.3% required comprehensive preparation, 64.2% were still preparing, and 17.5% were classified as ready for implementation. A need for additional training was reported by 69.7% of respondents.
Acceptance of meals by children and young people was identified as an anticipated challenge by 73.8% of institutions. The publication proposes involving pupils in menu changes through activities such as tastings, cooking together and evaluating new dishes.
Recommendations include dietetic support, model recipes, menu-planning tools and cooperation between local authorities, schools and kindergartens. The report is available free of charge on the Bezpieczna Żywność website.
