Brazil bans foie gras. A historic success for Animal Equality in Latin America.

Brazil has made history as the first country in Latin America to completely ban the production, import, export, and sale of foie gras. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed the groundbreaking legislation.

The ban is the result of a six-year campaign led by the organization Animal Equality with the support of dozens of other groups. Over 310,000 signatures were collected for the petition, investigations were conducted on farms and in slaughterhouses, and advocacy efforts, protests, and social mobilization were carried out.
