How do you tell if a product is vegan?
Short answer
Most reliable: a certification (V-Label, The Vegan Society) or an ingredient list without meat, dairy, eggs, honey and obvious additives (gelatin, carmine, whey). “Veggie” on the front is not enough.
Trap list: E120, E904, L-cysteine, vague “natural flavour”, vitamin D3, milk in bread. In the EU, allergens (milk, egg) are emphasised — a fast filter, not the only one.
Scanning apps help and also go stale. You still end up reading the label.
