Does pasta contain eggs?

Short answer

Dried durum-semolina pasta (wheat + water) usually does not. Fresh pasta, noodles, nests and “pasta all’uovo” often include egg. In Poland, “jajeczny” on the pack means eggs.

Italian dried semolina pasta is traditionally vegan. Exceptions: egg pasta, some lasagne and ravioli with cheese filling; Polish dumplings and potato noodles may use egg.

In a milk bar or with “homemade pasta”, ask. Gluten-free corn or rice pasta is usually vegan — the sauce may not be.
