Is casein vegan?

Short answer

No. Casein is a milk protein from cows (and other mammals), common in cheese, coffee creamers and “lactose-free” products that are still dairy.

Lactose-free is not milk-free. Casein remains after the milk sugar is removed.

There is no plant casein under that name on a label — if you see casein, it is milk.
