Maneka Gandhi is launching a vegan dog food brand called Woofly.
thehindubusinessline.comManeka Gandhi, a long-time Indian animal rights activist and former minister, is launching a brand called Compassion Foods. The first product, Woofly, is a vegan dog food: a 100-gram pouch of powder costs 40 rupees and, when mixed with water, yields about 300 grams of a meal that can be served with rice. The launch took place during CINEKIND on World Animal Day, October 4, 2026.
The food is produced in a facility in Jaipur, which, according to Gandhi, operates exclusively vegan and has spent four years perfecting the recipe at its own expense. Sales will be conducted through Zepto, Amazon, Flipkart, and its own website; discussions are ongoing with Shiprocket.
Gandhi states explicitly that she does not want to feed dogs chicken. She targets people who feed stray dogs rice with cheap poultry leftovers: "I don't believe one animal should be fed to another." The profits from Compassion Foods are intended to support People for Animals, the organization she founded. The shelter and hospital near Delhi, which have been under construction for over four decades, now occupy four acres, employ 130 people, including 11 veterinarians, and care for 4,000 to 5,000 animals.
Plans include variants for older dogs and those with diabetes, as well as Meowly, a vegan cat food enriched with taurine, free from meat and other animal ingredients.
