Australia: hens euthanised at 'high-welfare' farm after Animal Liberation footage
Photo by Artem Beliaikin on UnsplashAnimal Liberation published footage and images it says were captured at the Mountain Pride Eggs farm in Peats Ridge, showing dead and dying laying hens. The farm promotes itself as 'high-welfare, free-range' and a 'certified carbon neutral farm'.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development opened an investigation into food safety and biosecurity concerns. All live chickens on the property are being euthanised, eggs found during the inspection were seized, and a Prohibition Order was issued to stop production from restarting. RSPCA NSW is investigating the cruelty allegations.
Greens MLC Abigail Boyd says concerns about the farm were first raised in September 2025 and asks why it took more than a year for action.
