Does a vegan diet wreck digestion because of fibre?

Short answer

At the start, bloating is common because the fibre jump is large. That is usually about pace, soaking legumes and drinking water — not proof that “the body rejects plants”.

Ramp up over 2–3 weeks: tofu and red lentils first (easier), then beans. Carminative spices (cumin, fennel) and chewing well help.

People with IBS may need a temporary FODMAP limit — still possible vegan (rice, firm tofu, courgette, modest nuts). A clinical dietitian beats an internet detox.
