Eating out

How do you ask a waiter for a vegan dish?

Short answer

Be specific: no meat, fish, egg, dairy, honey or animal stock. Listing ingredients beats saying only “veggie”. In Asian kitchens ask about fish sauce and lard; in Italian, cheese and anchovy.

In Polish service, “wege” often means vegetarian (egg, cheese).

Shared-grill cross-contact is a personal line. Say it if it matters to you.
