Is E471 vegan?
Short answer
It depends. Mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids may come from plant oil or animal fat. Without a producer declaration the status is “depends”.
E471 is an emulsifier in bread and ice cream. Vegan certifications usually require a plant source.
Do not guess from the colour of the product.
