Are wool and leather vegan?
Short answer
No. They are animal products. Alternatives: cotton, linen, lyocell, synthetic leathers with varying environmental footprints (a separate axis). Down, fur and suede are out too.
The vegan definition includes clothes. Recycling old leather is a practical dilemma, not a relabel as “vegan”. Suede and nubuck are the same hide with a different finish. Goose or duck down and fur sit in the same category as wool.
The carbon footprint of plastic leather versus cattle hide is an environmental dispute, not a definition test.
