Is silk vegan?

Short answer

Not under the vegan definition: silk is insect cocoons. That is an ethical value (we do not eat it), but the material fact is simple — animal origin.

The Vegan Society includes clothing. Peace silk / ahimsa silk is sometimes marketed as gentler; it is still an insect product.

Whether someone wears old silk from a wardrobe is a personal line, not a change of definition.
