Does a vegan diet lack protein?

Short answer

No, that is a myth. Plants contain protein; on an ordinary varied diet, protein deficiency is uncommon where food is available.

Lentils, chickpeas, tofu, seitan, oats and nuts are dense sources. AND and BDA do not treat protein as the vegan-diet bottleneck.

Very low-calorie or ultra-restricted diets can be low in protein — that is meal planning, not veganism itself.
