Where do vegans get protein?

Short answer

From legumes, soy (tofu, tempeh), seitan, nuts, seeds and grains. A balanced plant diet meets needs for most healthy people; you do not need complete protein in every meal.

You do not need to be an amino-acid-combining expert – your body pieces them together from what you eat over the day. Lentils, chickpeas, tofu and grains deliver protein in amounts comparable to meat, plus more fibre.

If you train, you may need a little more – extra legumes or plant powders work well. But for everyday life, plant protein easily covers needs. Proof? Millions of vegans worldwide, including elite athletes.
