Basics

How do you get through the first week without meat?

Short answer

Eat what you already like, in a plant version: spaghetti with lentils, chickpea curry, bean tacos. Add B12 if dairy is going too. Do not experiment with twelve superfoods at once.

Change lasts when it tastes good. The BDA stresses a plan, not asceticism. An energy dip is often too few calories and too little fat, not “no meat in your DNA”.

A starter shop list: plain tofu, canned chickpeas, passata, buckwheat, frozen spinach, hummus, bananas, oats. Dinners: lentil spaghetti, chickpea curry, bean tacos, cabbage dumplings without crackling. Do not experiment with twelve superfoods at once. If dairy is going too — start B12 in week one.
