Basics

Is veganism hard?

Short answer

Usually easier than it looks at the start. A large share of what you already eat — groats, pasta, bread, fruit, vegetables, legumes — is plant-based. The hard part is habit and labels, not “living on salad”.

Most vegans say the switch was easier than they expected. Porridge, a hummus sandwich, fries, pizza without cheese, chickpea curry — food you already know. In Polish discounters, tofu, plant drinks and hummus sit on the everyday shelf.

Harder bits tend to be: cheese at a party, reading a bun label, the first family questions. That is why going gradually works: meals you already like, then dairy, then the details. You do not have to be “perfect” in week one for the change to stick.
