Ethics and environment
Does veganism ignore people?
Short answer
No. You can care about people and animals at once. Feed crops use calories and land that could feed people directly. A plant diet is also a public-health argument — not instead of poverty work, in parallel.
The “people first” jab assumes ethics has one slot. Veganism does not forbid humanitarian aid. Calories of grain eaten by farmed animals return to the plate with a large loss — so lower meat demand frees land and feed (Poore and Nemecek, Science 2018).
Health: less processed meat is a separate NHS/IARC trail, not a moral-superiority badge. You can support food banks and eat lentils. It is not a draw in which “either a steak or the hungry”.
