Do vegans eat too little fat?
Short answer
They do not have to. Sources: nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil, tahini, tofu. Watch omega-3 (ALA from flax, chia, walnuts) and optionally algal DHA/EPA.
An “only steamed vegetables” pattern can be too low-energy, especially for athletes and children. A spoon of tahini or a handful of nuts is an easy fix.
Fat helps absorb vitamins A, D, E and K. This is not a licence for daily deep-fry; it is a reminder that a meal needs nuts, oil or avocado.
